1) Beagles originated in Great Britain during the 1830’s from several breeds, including the Talbot Hound, the North Country Beagle, the Southern Hound, and possibly the Harrier.
2) The beagle is a scent hound and will follow a trail with unbroken determination, they were developed primarily for hunting rabbits.
3) They have around 220 million scent receptors in their noses, compared to about 5 million in humans.
4) Beagles are trained by security and law enforcement agencies throughout the world to detect things like concealed drug contraband in places such as airports, train stations, public events and crime scenes.
5) They are an Intelligent breed, and their temperament is usually described as Amiable, Excitable, Even Tempered, Gentle. They can be slightly more difficult to fully train due to their shear determination.
6) Beagles have a small to medium build, but don't let their size fool you. These compact dogs are hardy and love to be active, although they have an independent (some might say stubborn) streak that requires a patient and persistent owner.
7) Charlie Brown’s dog Snoopy is known as the world's most famous beagle.
